For a third time in her career, Sally Bigham wins the Leadville Trail 100 this last weekend. In the men´s race Jeremiah Bishop also finished an impressive 3th place.
Going into the Leadville 100 after a long, yet successful season, Bigham had no goal less than winning. If possible, breaking the race course record was also on her goals list.
“Leadville is a very special race in a unique terrain. The support of the audience and also from other riders is inspiring.” reveals IRON SALLY after her seven hours ride to the finish line. “ When you are at a turning point in Columbine and the riders come towards you, that´s unbelievable. I have never heard so many people shout out my name”. She even left former male road professionals behind and arrive at the finish line with a time of 07:05:47hrs, 14th overall, and almost an hour faster than second place rider, Lorenza Morfin.
For Bishop, the race was a little more spread out as the winner, Todd Wells, won with over seven minutes on Bishop. For a majority of the race, the leaders settled into a group of three including Wells, Bishop, and professional road cyclist, Joel Dombrowsky. “ The Leadville 100 are naturally always a battle against pain, but I didn´t have had my best day today, which is why I am happy that I still made it on to the podium”
